Preschool Program

The preschool program serves children aged 3-5 years, and occasionally 2½ year-olds who are developmentally ready to participate in preschool activities. Children may attend 2 days, 3 days or 5 days a week, with an extended day option on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

There are two basic teaching teams, one for MWF and one for TTTH. Both classes use the same space. In most years, each class has a mixed-age group; we believe that children of all ages and developmental levels learn well when they are placed with younger and older classmates. While each class bases its curriculum on the interests of the children in that class, there is often overlap and cross-fertilization of ideas. The teaching teams for the two classes meet regularly to coordinate classroom set-up and curriculum directions.

We are a Reggio-inspired early childhood program. For more on our approach, please view our Curriculum and Philosophical Statement pages.

Time for Twos
Our Time for Twos class offers a unique opportunity for parents and children to explore together the wonder-filled world of the young child. This program provides a gentle structure within which children from age 2 up through young 3-year-olds can begin to experience group care and education with the security of a parent or other caregiver nearby.

Under the guidance of an experienced teacher, children will strengthen their relationships with other children, develop their ability to engage in and stay with a given task, and explore their creative impulses.  The classes also aim to deepen understanding of the developmental stages of early childhood. Through exploration of natural materials, group musical experiences and simple art projects, parents have the opportunity to observe how the very young child constructs knowledge and skills in all areas of development:  social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical-motor.  In addition, the classes provide an opportunity for parents to come together in mutual support.

Time for Twos classes meet on Friday from 9:30-11:30 a.m in the classrooms of  the Elijah Kellogg Church.  Classes are grouped into three trimester sessions: fall, winter and spring. Families are asked to commit for a trimester at a time. The program follows the SAD#75 public school schedule in terms of holidays, vacations and school closures due to weather.
